The field notes
Curanderismo is the living body of traditional Mexican healing: limpias with herbs, copal or egg, sobadores who work the body, rezos, and herbal knowledge carried through families and regions. It is older than every other entry in this index and it belongs to the communities that carry it.
That is why this vertical curates slowest of all. We name lineages with care, we do not romanticize, and we would rather list five people rightly than fifty loosely. Where a practice is not meant for outsiders, it will not be listed at all.
- A limpia is short, practical and unceremonious in the best way
- Plain settings: markets, homes, small consultorios
- Spanish first; bring a friend who speaks it if you do not
- Payment is modest and direct, and haggling is disrespect
We list practitioners who are named and rooted in a community, with the community itself as the source. No storefront shamanism.
This is someone’s profession and inheritance, not a photo opportunity. Come as a patient, not a spectator.
